What is a CMS?
A CMS - content management system - is the tool that lets you update your own website. Not the design, just the words and pictures. It is the difference between a phone call to a developer every time your prices move, and doing it yourself in half a minute.
What it actually is
It is a private page you log into. Rather than your content being locked inside code, each piece of it is a field: a heading, a paragraph, a price, a phone number. You type over the old value, save, and the live site changes. Nobody has to be booked in and nothing has to be rebuilt.
Equally important is what it leaves alone. A CMS edits content inside a design that stays fixed. It is not a drag-and-drop editor and it will not let you rearrange your layout - that is a page builder, and handing a business owner a page builder is how a tidy site becomes an untidy one six months later.
A useful way to think about it: you are editing the words on a printed page, not redoing the typography. The typography is the bit you paid for, and it is the bit most people unintentionally spoil the moment they are handed a canvas and a toolbar.

Do I need one?
Be honest with yourself about which column you are in. There is no wrong answer, and we would rather you skipped it than paid for something you never open.
- Your prices, hours or service list move more than a couple of times a year.
- You want to add a service or an FAQ without waiting for someone else to be free.
- You are the person who holds the answers, and typing them beats briefing them.
- You are being charged a monthly fee simply for small text changes.
- Your content is settled - the same handful of services, unchanged for years.
- You want a canvas to redesign the site yourself. Ours is fields only, on purpose.
- You have not launched yet. Build the site, then add the CMS if you feel the need.
- Budget is tight and the money is better spent on the site itself.
